Meet Our Research Team

Dr. Samantha Winemaker is a palliative care physician who cares for patients with serious illness and their families in the home. She is an Associate Clinical Professor at McMaster University in the Department of Family Medicine, Division of Palliative Care. She is the Medical Co-Lead of the Hamilton Community Palliative Care Team and an active trainer of palliative care education to medical students, residents, and clinicians.

Dr. Seow shares his personal story that lead to his research  journey in Palliative Care  

Dr. Hsien Seow is the Canada Research Chair in Palliative Care and Health System Innovation and an Associate Professor at McMaster University, Department of Oncology. He focuses on ways to improve palliative care delivery and the care experience, particularly in the home and community. His expertise is in health services and policy research, quality measurement, population-based analytics, and program evaluation.

Dr. Daryl Bainbridge is a senior research coordinator with expertise in quantitative and qualitative research. He has led projects on formative program evaluation, instrument validation, systematic reviews, and randomized controlled trials.  

Maggie Civak is a senior research coordinator with expertise in education, program design, research facilitation and knowledge exchange. She has led projects on quality improvement in public health, mental health, and program evaluation.

Wanda Oldfield is the team’s communication, social media, and creative specialist. She leads all media and patient inquiries. 

Kayla McMillan is a research assistant with experience in patient interviews, study recruitment, clinical trial coordination, and social media. 

Sue Tan Toyofuku is a seasoned design and innovation consultant. She previously worked with the design and innovation firm, IDEO, as a human factors researcher and lead design strategist in the USA and across Asia.
